These facts might help. Each time I sit down with an instrument, I usually practice for about 1 or 2 hours. I’ve also been playing guitar for 6 months (Know the main chords/ scales). I am not tone-deaf, and I have a natural passion for music. PS. I mean Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal styled bass.
you’ll be a better bassist if you listen to all styles of music… you wont keep everything you hear, but you’ll become unusual and GREAT!

Give yourself 3 months max. You should put on heavy metal CD and start practicing right away with them. Play over the music and listen to what the Bass player is doing.
This way, you develop your ear training at the same time.

Well, you already play guitar,
bass has the same tuning as the the guitar minus the b and e strings, you like music, as long as you have good timing I think it won't take you any time at all, your hands have to stretch more and push down harder, but you almost never need chords so physically the two are about the same, get a metronome if you don't have one because timing is essential for bass.
It's not a horribly complex instrument, good luck it sounds like you'd do well with a bass!

it really depends on how strong is your passion… there's no easy way… it may take you so long to become a very good bass player. but just keep practicing and playing it. just enjoy.
