Pickups and microphones are both transducers, they are somewhat the same except pickup are built to capture the vibrations of metallic strings, and not air vibrations, like traditional microphones. In some languages it’s one same word, you just make the difference according to the application. I saw one dude yell into his guitar one day to see if he could hear himself. Dumb.

I play with a pick. For anyone else who does I find that just simply resting my hand on the bridge and picking over the first pickup is a very relaxed way to play.

You learn to mute the strings with the palm of your “plucking” hand near the wrist joint. It, like most skills, takes some getting used to, but practice and it will become second nature in no time.

I have a realllyyy …
I have a realllyyy newbie question for anyone out there that knows a bit about bass. Im not new to music, but im new to bass/guitar, and I really want to learn bass. Im left handed, and I dont know if I should be looking at a left or right handed bass. Either way feels really akward and uncomfortable when I try it… can anyone offer any advice?

go with left handed …
go with left handed bass…because your left handed and you’ll find it more comfterble.
