Why don’t you just use the open D string to tune it down instead of the 5th fret of the A string? seems more practical, since you don’t have to fret anything.

Werd, I’m not very familiar with black metal bands, but I know for a fact that’s it’s very uncommon in most death metal bands, although some do use it, such as the almighty Psycroptic.

Best way to find out is just to look up a bunch of tabs and see what people are using, or just figure it out yourself by ear.
