    Pickups and …
Pickups and microphones are both transducers, they are somewhat the same except pickup are built to capture the vibrations of metallic strings, and not air vibrations, like traditional microphones. In some languages it’s one same word, you just make the difference according to the application. I saw one dude yell into his guitar one day to see if he could hear himself. Dumb.

Which is why I did …
Which is why I did not say a pickup is a microphone, but in some languages they are one same word.

    Saying a pickup is …
Saying a pickup is a microphone because they are both transducers is like saying a fish is a cow because they are both animals.

    I play with a pick. …
I play with a pick. For anyone else who does I find that just simply resting my hand on the bridge and picking over the first pickup is a very relaxed way to play.

  9. RaidenNoKishi Says:

    You learn to mute …
You learn to mute the strings with the palm of your “plucking” hand near the wrist joint. It, like most skills, takes some getting used to, but practice and it will become second nature in no time.

I have a realllyyy newbie question for anyone out there that knows a bit about bass. Im not new to music, but im new to bass/guitar, and I really want to learn bass. Im left handed, and I dont know if I should be looking at a left or right handed bass. Either way feels really akward and uncomfortable when I try it… can anyone offer any advice?

  11. tsuyoshixxxxx Says:

    go with left handed …
go with left handed bass…because your left handed and you’ll find it more comfterble.

I’m Naturally left handed but I play bass Right handed. If your a new player, learn right handed, their are alot more Right handed bass’s compared to left. I mean… ALOT more.

    I’d say that it’ll …
I’d say that it’ll be more comfortable (and, therefore, easier) for you to learn on a left hand bass BUT be prepared to have to really hunt around for a bass you like as there are relatively very few left-hand bass guitars

  16. 777static777 Says:

    Well thats fair …
Well thats fair enough… But that doesnt change the fact that there is a very small selection of left-handed basses and guitars; it’s just the way it is.

If you play right handed u can use more basses than what lefties can. Because more guitars/basses are availible than left handed guitars/basses.

    believe me resting …
believe me resting your thumb on the mic is a good thing making it easier for you to control your dynamics and overall touch of your playing. I tend to rest my thumb on the mic only when I’m playing on E string, otherwise I rest it on E or A string depending what string am I currently playing. I kinda looked into seeing it mentioned here. These expert villagepeople dont see very expert in bass playing judgeing by what ive seen =/

pickup, thats what I meant :P

  25. NickInMesa Says:

    If you want a …
If you want a thumbrest you can buy on. It’s pretty old school, though, as resting the thumb on the neck pup is common practice.

If you think you sound better when you finger between the pups then a rest could be a good thing but seriously it’s old old old school.
